What to Expect

Whether you've tried acupuncture before or it's your very first time with Traditional Chinese Medicine, you're in for an equally rewarding experience. To make your visit as productive as possible, please review the information about scheduling, pricing, cancellation policies, and insurance found here. If you are a new patient, read the information below under “Your First Visit,” and be sure to complete the intake and consent forms and bring them with you to your appointment.

Your First Visit

Before your session, we’ll assess areas you’d like to improve and determine the ways Traditional Chinese Medicine is right for you. We’ll also familiarize you with the therapies of acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, moxabustion, cupping, and other remedies effective for your condition. Most importantly, we’ll answer any questions you may have about acupuncture and its role in a happier, healthier you.

Are the Needles Painful?
Many patients are pleasantly surprised that the ultra-fine, disposable needles produce little sensation when placed. If any pain is felt, it is roughly the same as a mosquito bite (but without the itch afterward). Needles are left in for approximately 30 minutes while you relax to soft music in a calming environment.

How Long Are Appointments?
Your first treatment usually lasts 90 minutes. Subsequent visits are usually about an hour.

What Paperwork Should I Bring?
New patients should download and complete our Intake and Consent forms (PDFs) prior to arrival. Please bring these signed forms with you to your first appointment. If you are unable to fill them out ahead of time, please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so that you can complete them in the clinic.

What Should I Wear?
We recommend you wear loose, comfortable clothing to your session. While acupuncture doesn’t require any physical activity on your part, it always helps to be comfortable.

What About Food & Exercise?
Please have a small snack about thirty minutes before arriving. Also, we ask that you refrain from exercise for 2 hours before and after your visit.

Are There Any After Effects?
During your session, you will likely find your acupuncture treatment to be very soothing. After your session, you may experience a feeling of deep relaxation. Welcome to a new approach in preventative health!

Post-Treatment Planning.
Before you go, your acupuncturist will discuss future treatment goals with you based on your condition.
